Sparks of architectural inspiration to St Paul’s Church
St’s Paul’s Trinity Pacific Presbyterian Church representative, Sarona Iosefa and her partner, along with Bruce McGregor, consultant architect of the church visited Fo Guang Shan South Island on 18th of July. St Paul’s Church was built in 1877 and made it to the New Zealand Heritage List in 1985. Unfortunately the building was severely damaged during the February Earthquake and the purpose of this visit is to seek for inspiration to rebuild the church.
Fo Guang Shan Art Gallery hostee, Ms See Shen Lee showed the couple and Bruce around FGS, explaining to them the ideas and concepts used in building this magnificent temple. They were very impressed and amazed with the designs, especially the display of Eastern Culture that can be seen everywhere. Bruce McGregor who is also a major figure in New Zealand architecture even rated the temple as “10/10”, a definite perfect score.
Apart from that, they spent time touring around the temple admiring the art pieces in the Art Gallery. The Embroidery Exhibition and Ceramics Exhibition did not fail their expectations and they were delighted to have this opportunity to get to know FGS better.
