Police Sergeant visits Fo Guang Shan

01 / 05

National Strategic Ethnic Advisor sergeant Rakesh Naidoo took the time to visit Fo Guang Shan on official business in Auckland. On 4th of July, Sergeant Naidoo was greeted at the temple by Venerable Abbess Manshin, Minister in Charge Venerable Manwang, and North Island BLIA president Dolly Tsai. That morning Sergeant Naidoo gave a talk for the Wednesday “Humanistic Dharma Class”.

During the class, Sergeant Naidoo shared with everyone his experiences while serving in the field, which includes many examples of problem solving for the community, such as domestic violence and burglary etc. He talked about how the police managed to gain trust from the general public, and how they obtained better co-operation and interactions with young people. Sergeant Naidoo also talked about how New Zealand police was awarded 4 prizes during the “2012 Public Sector Excellence Awards” for their great work in disaster relief after the September earthquake. One of the awards for “Excellence in Ethic Diversity” could not have been possible without the assistance, participation and team work from Fo Guang Shan and many other ethnic/cultural organizations. This also showed multicultural and diversity of New Zealand police.

The Abbess took Sergeant Naidoo on a tour through the temple, where he enjoyed the beautiful silk tapestry exhibited inside Fo Guang Yuan art gallery. He also browsed through Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Dharma words throughout the walkways, from which he gained much philosophical wisdom, and obtained strength under the tranquil atmosphere. Sergeant Naidoo expressed that he will encourage all his colleagues to come and visit the temple, where they can relax, recharge and nurture their bodies and minds.
