Flying Colours on Tapestry”, Chen Wen’s Kesi Tapestry presented at New Zealand North Island
On 15th April during the Buddha’s Birthday celebration, Fo Guang Yuan art gallery also celebrated the grand opening of Chen Wen’s “Flying Colours on Tapestry” Kesi “cut silk” tapestry exhibition. The opening ceremony was participated by local Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross, NZ Royal Police Inspector Jim Searle, University of Auckland Pastor Reverend Uesifili Unasa, Director- General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Auckland NZ Mr Carl Yang, Venerable Abbess Manshin, and North Island BLIA President Dolly Tsai.
The Curator Venerable Abbess Manshin welcomed all in attendance and explained the significance of this special style of silk weaving. Kesi “Cut silk” tapestry is an artistry that has been passed down the lineage for over 2000 years; hence it’s very rare and precious. Presently, there are only 200 artists left in the world who are still practicing this artistry.
The artist Ms Chen Wen gave her deep appreciation and gratitude to Fo Guang Yuan gallery for providing her the opportunity and conditions to allow this artistry to shine throughout the world. She hopes that her works will bring joy and pleasure to all viewing connoisseurs. The local MP Jami-Lee Ross expressed that all the different varieties of art presented at Fo Guang Yan art gallery has always brought him great enthusiasm and joy. He encouraged everyone to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities, to come and view the different styles of art on exhibition.
After the opening ceremony, a Kesi artist gave a live demonstration of the weaving process, which attracted great attention from the audience. Visitors to the Buddha’s Birthday celebration continuously poured into the gallery to view the art pieces, all were astounded by the delicate and elegant works created by the artist’s meticulous skills.
The “Flying Colours on Tapestry – Chen Wen’s Kesi “Cut Silk” exhibition” will be on display till the end of 2012. It’s predicted to bring about another rush of art enthusiasts.
