TV3 “Café Secrets” films program at Water Drop Cafe

On 30th April, 5 of the crew from the television program “Café Secrets” arrived at Fo Guang Shan North Island to film the cooking process for Water Drop Café’s famous “Curry Laksa Noodle”. The crew and the show’s host Julie Le Clerc (who is a famous New Zealand cookbook author) were received by Chairperson Annie Ng, her mother Madam Chiu Liang Yin, and other committee members including Koni, Ann, Ju Su Wei and Candice.

During filming, Madam Yin demonstrated the cooking of the much adored “Curry Laksa Noodle”. Throughout the process, Julie showed much interest to the traditional Malaysian cuisine and brought up many interesting questions. Madam Yin expressed that the trick to this dish is a secret recipe that’s been passed down her family lineage. Madam Yin also shared many other cooking insights while making the cuisine. Afterwards Julie also created 3 of her own European Asian fusion dishes, which included Organic pepper tofu, spring roll and fried noodle.

The crew felt their spirits up lifted upon their return to Fo Guang Shan, and feels that the green tranquil environment is a perfect place to settle one’s body and mind. Director Maxine Clayton gave her deep appreciation to Fo Guang team’s efficiency and co-operation. She expressed that, in comparison with 10 other eatery that were filmed, shooting at this location has been the smoothest. Venerable Manwang presented gifts of “Water Drop Avalokitesvara” pendents to the crew on behalf of the temple. The Venerable also encouraged everyone to find time between busy work hours to come and seek knowledge at the temple.

“Café secrets” is TV3 program that discover and present unique cuisines from many different eateries throughout New Zealand. The show’s 2nd season will commence in July. It will surely bring about another wave of food ethicists.
