Fo Guang Shan North Island visits Korean temple during the Buddha’s Birthday celebration
Due to invitations by Abbot Venerable Tong Jen of the Korean Nang Guo Temple, members from Fo Guang Shan North Island visited the temple during the Buddha’s Birthday celebration. During the afternoon of 20th May, Abbess Venerable Manshin, Venerable Manwang, North Island BLIA president Dolly Tasi and 31 other committee members arrived at Nang Guo Temple.
Abbot Tong Jen warmly received the visitors by treating them to traditional Korean ceremonial tea, sticky puddings and beautifully handmade cakes. As a large and official Nang Guo temple is planned to be built on the current site, Abbot Tong Jen explained to the visitors about the proposed structure and ideas behind the future temple. Gifts of delicate paper Lotus flowers and mini khakkhara were given to the visitors. In return, a poster of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s new calligraphy work “Auspicious star shines afar” and books were gifted to Nang Guo Temple.
Venerable Tong Jen and devotees would come and visit Fo Guang Shan every year during Buddha’s Birthday. He is also a proponent of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s propagation of Humanistic Buddhism, and takes every opportunity to put it to practice. Venerable Tong Jen has expressed the desire to propagate Buddhism alongside Fo Guang Shan with the motto of “Fo Guang in the East, and Nang Guo to the West”.
