Prestigious Auckland School “Diocesan Girls” visit Fo Guang Shan North Island
53 students, 13 parents and teachers from central Auckland, Epsom’s “Diocesan Girls School” visited Fo Guang Shan North Island on 25th May. They were received by Venerable Miaoyu, with volunteers Lesley Ruki-Willison, Annie Ng, Bruce Zhou, Penny Tse, Vicky Chiang, Anny Yu and Lisa Leung. Many activities including temple tour, tai qi, meditation, and formal vegetarian meals were organized for the visitors.
Besides learning about the temple’s architecture, natural environment, and the ideals behind Humanistic Buddhism, other foundational Buddhist philosophy were explained through the symbolism of Buddha statues and Dharma instruments. Through the teaching of 4 Giving and 3 Good deeds by the volunteers, it is hoped the little ones will be able to apply these wholesome practices during their everyday life.
During the tour, the students and teachers expressed their gratitude toward the warm hospitality shown by members of Fo Guang Shan. They all eagerly lined up to make wishes in front of the Wishing Bell.
