Remember the Kindness of Parent

01 / 08

The Fo Guang Shan south island held a service on the 11th May especially for blessing the mothers. Led by Venerable Miaoyu and 50 devotees chanted “The Sutra about the Deep Kindness of Parents and the Difficulty of Repaying It” and “Blessing the parents and friends” words written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. During the progress of chanting, people could understand the 10- month hardships a mother bears during pregnancy, the great unconditional love and giving from parents. Venerable Miaoyu explained afterwards that Buddha already depicted the hardships of parents 2500 years ago with the most detailed words, (+long before medical technologies were invented). Therefore, we should always care for and pay gratitude to our parents.

The Buddha’s Light International Association south Island New Zealand English Sub chapter president Glenda said on the day that when she was young, she did harm to herself which broke her mother’s heart. However, her mother did not give up on her and even saved her life. A month before Glenda’s mother died, she did her best to be with her during the last period of her life. She is very grateful for everything her mother has done. Dharma lecturer Mrs. Rona Chen said that she is grateful to have a loving step-mother, kind-hearted grandmother and belief in great Buddha. They are all mothers in her life and she is standing here today because of them. Venerable Miaoyu encouraged everyone to be in touch with your parents more and show your care for them.
