CHCH Lincoln High Understanding Humanistic Buddhism
In order to explore different culture and religion, Christchurch Lincoln High School with one of the teachers, Mr Karyn Wilson, led 30 high school students to visit New Zealand South Island Fo Guang Shan on 3rd April at 9:30am. Buddha Light International Association (BLIA) South Island New Zealand president and former president, See Shen Lee and Almeric Cheng, accompanied them and gave them a temple tour. The tour separated into two routes. One went to the main shrine with Almeric Cheng, who explained fundamental idea and teachings of Buddhism such as, Four noble truths, Eightfold path and more to the group. The students on the day concentrated in the tour by writing what they learned on their note books. The other route included See Shen Lee giving the group of students an art work exhibition tour at Master Hsing Yun’s One Stroke Exhibition in the art gallery and Shi Fong Feng’s Carton Exhibition on Human Life Style. The students were amazed by the design of the Temple’s building. The time tunnel, the four bodhisattvas on the outside wall and pond protecting the cave, and courtyard grabbed their attentions. Through the tours given by Fo Guang Shan South Island New Zealand allowed the students to understand humanistic Buddhism and artistic cultural propagation in Christchurch. Just to wish them to have good future and fortune the temple presented a souvenir gift of small Buddha card, to all the students that participated, before they leave. The teacher, on behalf of all the students that turned up, thanked and showed appreciation to the volunteers for bringing such a fantastic and meaningful religious and artistic tour.
