The Opening Ceremony of the Estuary Artworks

The opening ceremony was held at FGS – Auckland on 17th March, the collaboration between Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery and Uxbridge Howick Creative. This is also the very first time FGY art gallery works with a local art centre. The guests of honour are Mr Tony Morgan, Uxbridge Creative Centre manager, Ms Adele White, the Deputy-Chairperson from the Howick local community, Mr Dick Quax and Venerable Manwang, BLIA Auckland temple-supervisor.

The opening speech is first given by Venerable Manwang. She hopes that this exhibition will create more awareness in environmental preservation and was pleased that BLIA has this opportunity to hold this exhibition.

Followed by a speech by Mr Tony Morgan, he pointed out the ambience and the environment of BLIA. Because of the simplicity, the art works speaks for themselves.

Last but not least, the 2012 winner, Penny Lin, shared her inspiration on her art work after her visit to the museum in Taiwan, her hometown. Penny also used the shaped of NZ native fish and the evolvement of the word “Fish” in oracle bone script; on a light blue fabric.

The 2012 Estuary Artworks Exhibition has focuses on the environmental health of the Tamaki Estuary. The purpose of this exhibition is to advocate to the visitors, the Estuary’s protection and preservation. Also hope to motivate and create awareness among the other communities constructively to ensure its survival.

This exhibition will runs from 17th March through 15th April, and is open on Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:30pm to 4pm.
