Car Wash Day - Fundraising for BLIA South Island YAD
Members of the Buddha Light International Association (BLIA) Young Adult Division (YAD) are attending the annual Australia New Zealand Buddhist Youth Camp (ANZBYC) held in a different city of Australia or New Zealand every year. This year it is in Perth, and in order to raise funds, they have organised a fundraising carwash, led by BLIA YAD President Hao-Tin. The first series of carwash days began on Saturday 10th March at 9:30am. Although the eight young people were inexperienced, the morning was cold and windy, their enthusiasm led to completion of six vehicles in the organised four hours of washing. After the successful morning of car washing with support from various temple aunties and uncles, a delicious lunch was prepared by Venerable Miaoyu and the kitchen aunties, to fuel the young people with energy for the rest of the afternoon.
The result of the car wash day was a successful day in learning about serving the public, and Venerable Miaoyu was confident about the young people’s learning capabilities. This small but meaningful experience, can lead to bigger responsibilities in serving the community. The young people are also grateful for the support from the uncles and aunties of the temple, and cherish this learning opportunity.
