BLIA South Island's Buddha’s Birthday Meeting

01 / 06

The first 2012 Buddha’s Birthday preparation meeting was held at 1pm, 3rd of March by BLIA South Island. In the presence of Venerable Abbess Manshin, BLIA South Island President See Shin Lee chaired the meeting, which was attended by twenty other committee members.

In the meeting, we discussed and planned for Buddha’s birthday and set the event theme. The job was allocated as followed: President See Shin Lee is the Event Director, Vice President Gina Chen and Louisa Kuo are the Vice Director. Other 21 groups will be in charged by other experienced group leaders. Abbess guided the details of activities and set down the clear direction and goals. The whole team was very passionate and looking forward to contribute to this event.

This is the third year for BLIA South Island to hold Buddha’s Birthday function in Fo Guang Shan South Island Temple. Besides the Buddha Bathing Ceremony as usual, the theme for Buddha’s Birthday this year will be “Blessing for Christchurch” and all religious groups will be invited, in order to encourage Christchurch people and help them find confidence, hope and strength after the earthquakes. Afterwards, there will be an opening ceremony of Chinese Zen Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition. In the afternoon, Baby Blessing Ceremony and Multicultural Performances will be on. At the same time, the temple will prepare vegetarian food stalls and the Water Drop Café will provide special Buddha’s Birthday lunch.

In order to make this year’s Buddha’s Birthday more effective, every group has already started the recruitments of good members and elite. The whole team is so excited and the Buddha’s Birthday on 21st of April will have high expectations.
