YAD represented Buddhism in CHCH Memorial Service
Buddha Light’s International Association (BLIA) Youth Adult Division (YAD) ground leader Hao-Tin Lin, and members Maggie Zhang, Jordan Wong and Chris Wong were invited to attend the Christchurch memorial service held in Hagley park on 22 February to represent Buddhist and together with various youth religion representative from Catholic, Christian, Jews, Islam and Hindu on stage to read “Act of Remembrance” for the families member of earthquake victims. BLIA New Zealand south island president SeeShen Lee, have led approximately 10 BLIA members to participate in this service.
Prime Minister John Key, Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae, Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker, Maori Elder Henare Rakiiha Tau and various honoured guest attended by giving speech and also giving condolence speech to the families member of quake victims. Locals arrived in North Hagley Park to participate the service and the service have linked ten of thousands Christchurch community heart.
On 12.51 pm which was the time Christchurch earthquake strikes last year, the nation stops for two minutes' silence to remember the quake's victims. The National television broadcasted the service in live and transmitted the blessing to all the corner of nation.
Besides expressing the mourning to family members of quake victims and encourage the public to be brave and move on, BLIA YAD south island member also gained some new inspiration and learning while participating in this service. They hope the light of Dharma can grow within them, also shine for all the people, together they pray for Christchurch to have a brighter future.
