Police and Politics Friends Gathered in FGS
On 21st February Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island welcomed several honoured guests, such as the Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New Zealand Mr Elliott Charng, Vice Representative Mr Huang from capital Wellington, Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission Taiwan Norman Chang and others came to visit. FGS New Zealand Venerable Abbess Manshin, temple supervisor Venerable Jue Xi, Buddha Light International Association (BLIA) South Island New Zealand president See Shen Lee, Directors Mei-Hwa Chen, Jack Liu, Rona Chen and Christine Wang welcomed them. The purpose of Representative Elliot Charng’s visit is to appreciate FGS and BLIA New Zealand members who helped solve recent accident cases that involved Taiwanese Youths.
On the same day, New Zealand Royal Police Superintendent Wallace Haumaha, Strategy Advisor Sergeant Rakesh Naidoo and other police officers came to visit. Because they were friends of the Abbess and other BLIA members, hence each visit to Christchurch, FGS South Island became part of their visiting schedule. They mentioned that FGS South Island has the positive energy which lets them recharge and continue their tense and complicated workloads.
Abbess met both groups of honoured guest at the same time, sharing each other’s work experiences. Whether BLIA members, police officers or diplomatic officers, there are all considered as peoples’ protectors, spiritual workers and life guardians. The interaction of each other symbolized the blending of the culture and the spiritual communication of the people, the care and support of each others can create a harmonious society.
