A visit by Botany International Travel College
On the morning of 18th February, 18 students from Botany International Travel College visited Fo Guang Shan led by their instructor Lynalla. The purpose of the visit is to gain cultural understanding through travel. Volunteer Peter Batten received the visitors and explained the natural and cultural significance behind the temple’s environment.
Lynalla expressed that the goal of this visit is to familiarize the pupils with different ethnic cultures and religions. Prior to this visit, many students did not have any encounters with Buddhist temples; hence this experience is very significant for them. Lynalla and the students agreed to further discuss the experience to deepen their understanding upon their return to class.
One pupil Diane expressed her appreciation of the temple’s tranquility and peacefulness upon her first visit. She was also grateful for Peter’s explanations along the way, which gave her understanding of the source of Buddhism, symbolism of the Buddhist statues and etiquettes of the temple.
