Bridging Auckland to Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery

01 / 04

The bridge between Fo Guang Shan North Island and the local arts scene was strengthened when Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Auckland was invited to be part of the 2012 Howick Arts Festival. Uxbridge Creative Centre Manager Tony Morgan and Curator Melissa Elliott visited the Temple last week to discuss the upcoming Tamaki Estuary Art Exhibition in Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery and investigate the exhibition space.

The Tamaki Estuary Art Exhibition will feature a collection of paintings and sculptures that creatively depict the estuary's importance in Auckland. The artworks that will be displayed are finalists of the 2012 Estuary Artworks Competition. Uxbridge Creative Centre will be shifting this exhibition to Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Auckland after initially displaying the artworks at their premises.

Collaboration between the Gallery and Uxbridge Creative Centre was enhanced when they invited the Temple for a followup meeting at their premises on 26 January. Representing Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Auckland were Media Group members Candice Chia and Ken Ng. Tony and Melissa were amazed and impressed by the efforts and work carried out by Fo Guang Shan North Island for the local community. This meeting has proven to be a milestone in the Temple's history as it signals a collaborative relationship with the local arts scene; bringing Humanistic Buddhism a step closer to New Zealanders.
