A student representative, Nathan from University of Canterbury Student Association attends the Short Term Monastic Retreat

FGS North Island had a student representative, Nathan visit FGS in the morning. He led a volunteer group of 1200 students in the clean up of the houses that were affected by liquefaction during the earthquakes. He visited the Buddha Light International Association (BLIA) Relief Centre during that critical time and has been a volunteer since. He had been to South-East Asia to learn about Theravada Buddhism, has always shows a great interest in Buddhism and its philosophy.

Since he learn that the Short Serm Monastic Retreat (an opportunity to experience tranquil monastic life and chance to cultivate the mind and body) will be held in BLIA headquarter in Taiwan in December; he flew from Christchurch to FGS North Island. He was received by Venerable Abbess Manshin, to have a quick run through on the traditional Buddhist etiquette and foundations of Mahayana and Humanistic Buddhism in a few hours! Nathan has decided to shave his 4 years dreadlocks for this short term cultivation retreat.

Let’s wish him all the best and transcend himself in this Short Term Monastic Retreat.
