The Middle Path and Triple Gems of Buddhism

01 / 04

On October 23, Fo Guang Shan South Island continued their English Basic Buddhism and Basic Meditation Class with Buddha’s Light International Association members Fefei Lei and Ding Lihson sharing their wisdoms of Buddhism and meditation to 15 students. With 10 minutes of walking meditation following with 20 minutes of sitting meditation, students practiced relaxing the whole body, the mind focusing on the breath and counting it, and practicing inhaling and exhaling with the correct sitting positions. With a short 20 minutes meditation, the students felt relaxed and refreshed. Even with a second time coming student, learning all the correct ways, he also felt rejuvenated.

Continuing the class, Ding shared about the “Middle Path”. Middle Path is the practice between the two extremes of excessive self-indulgence (hedonism) and excessive self-mortification (asceticism); and it leads to the end of the cycle of rebirth. The sharing of the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha) was also shared with the students to help students gain happiness and cease suffering. The class has now known how practicing Buddhism could help self-purity and re-development of life.
