Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva’s Renunciation Day

In the remembrance of the Renunciation Day of Avalokitesvara (Guan Yin) Bodhisattva, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island held “The Procedure of Guan Yin Bodhisattva Dharma Function” on October 14, year 2011. 60 Buddhist devotees presided by Venerable Abbess Manshin chanted “Lotus Sutra – The Chapter on the Universal Gateway of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva”, chanting the name of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the Great Compassion Dharani and also made prostrations.

After the Dharma Function, the Abbess shared her experience in attending the September 29 “Police Remembrance Day” that took place in Wellington. The Abbess expressed, Buddhism in New Zealand has embarked on National Police services in giving peace and calmness. FGS venerables now play important parts in giving confidence for everyone to get forward.

This year’s Police Remembrance Day not only had FGS and Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) members as guests, but it is also an honour for these Buddhist devotees in representing many other multi-religions in New Zealand.

FGS South Island Temple Supervisor - Venerable Juexi, BLIA South Island upcoming President See-Shen Lee have also shared their experiences respectively in participating the Police Remembrance Day. In the end, Benny Wong has shared his feelings and decisions in taking part in the upcoming of rare and limited entry of the short monastic retreat in conjunction of the opening of Buddha Memorial Centre in Taiwan.
