Compassion of the Buddha came again on Sunday
20 students participated on October 2 for the Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island Sunday Buddhist College. At first, a video clip of “Love and Peace World Prayer” that happened at the Buddha’s Memorial Center of Fo Guang Shan headquarters in Taiwan. The video is about “The Prospects of Religions in a Centennial” which brings everybody the power and effect of a religion in China these 100 years.
Reverend Juexi then shared; the core purpose of any religions will be for people to be good, with just the practice and methods used differently and it could empower the society. Currently, there is one volunteer in every five person in Taiwan which makes faith indeed a great result of education. Venerable Juexi then expressed, Fo Guang Shan has also brought multi-faiths of the world together to promote love and peace in demonstrating integrations of different religions globally.
The class has then continued with the stories of the Buddha that is in the Bodhi Square of the Buddha Memorial Centre. It is called the “Compassion of the Buddha” where artwork of stories about Buddha is exhibited. The stories include “The Mother of Demon”, “Auspicious Grass”, “Picking Flower with a Smile”, “Maudgalyayana Saving Mother form Hell”, “Devadatta Harms the Buddha” and many more. The reverend have explained the story and asked relevant questions to the students for them to attain more wisdom. She also explained the “Five Rebellious Offences”, the origins of the “Ulambana Festival” and the practice of “Rain Retreat” in Buddhism. All Buddha’s stories bring good education, inspires to those that listens to it and enriches the spiritual heart.
