Taking Precepts helps in Meditating
On September 18, the third class of the FGS South Island English Basic Buddhism and Basic Meditation class started with 21 students participated. Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) members, Feifei Lei and Ding Lihson shared their wisdom with the class attentively. Feifei started the class of simple meditation with simple walking warm up and walking meditation. It continued with sitting meditation and adjusted the postures of those who did not have the right postures. She later shared on how one should be clearing the mind while doing meditation.
Following the class, Ding continued in Basic Buddhism where he linked the lay Buddhist Five Precepts with the Noble Eightfold Path. In the lay Buddhist Five Precepts they are: No killing, No stealing, No telling lies, No sexual misconduct and No intoxicants which are also connected to the Conduct Division of the Noble Eightfold Path which are: Right Speech, Right Action and Right Livelihood.
The knowledge in understanding the Noble Eightfold Path and the Five Precepts did not only helped them in the practice of meditation, but also their everyday live.
