Thrice Yearning Congregation in the Filial Piety Month

01 / 10

It’s the annual month of filial piety in the Chinese lunar calendar and on August 12, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island convened more than 70 Buddhist devotees in the “Amitabha Pure Land Thrice Yearning Congregation Recitation and Chanting Service” (Chinese language: SHAN SHIH SI NIEN). The majestic temple filled with atmosphere of magnificence and joy as the names of Amitabha Buddha and other Buddhas were praised and chanted. It’s a very special occasion as this is only the second time for FGS South Island to have this dignified service since it was opened in 2007.

From the 1st day of seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, that is also the Buddhist month of filial piety, 200 “Sutra of the Past Vows from the Earth Store Bodhisattva (Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva)” have been completed. This not only fulfilled a pledged vow made earlier by the Buddhist devotees to the Buddhas, but also built merits to many.

After more than 3 hours of the service, Venerable Abbess Manshin explained about preaches that were in the service. It is very important in willing to change into a better person, to have right intensions, acquire a softer heart, uphold “Others First”; “Temple First”; “Buddhism First”; “Propagating Dharma First” and use the “Noble Eightfold Path” into leading a more valuable life, and always be compassionate in growing wisdoms and skills.

In the end, Venerable Abbess Manshin gave words of wisdom to everyone in letting go of worries, as all things are impermanent.
