BLIA (North Island)NZ Environmental and Spiritual Preservation – Earth Hour
On 30 July, BLIA (North Island) NZ organised the ‘Environmental and Spiritual Preservation – Earth Hour’ event to encourage devotees to participate in the recitation of Buddha’s name in the temple and simultaneously turn off all lights at home to support the BLIA General Conference 2011 Theme ‘Environmental and Spiritual Preservation’, which attracted over 80 participants.
The activity started at precisely 7pm and was presided over by Venerable Manwang. Every participant held a candle , recited and meditated in the dark. Venerable Manwang quoted the words of Wisdom from Master Hsing Yun: To love the earth and protect the environment means to respect life, and protect the ecological system, every living being is a small universe, living in a big universe, thus, all living things are connected in one way or another. Loving mother nature is loving oneself. In order to survive, one must love and cherish all causes and conditions and ‘be one’ and ‘coexist’ with all things. The awakening of humanity starts with preservation of the spiritual environment, so practice the three acts of goodness and the four givings diligently and this would ultimately lead to the preservation of nature.
