The Most Southern FGS in the World is Snowing!

01 / 10

As the temperature went lower and lower these few weeks, the Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island, which is the most southern FGS in the world, began to feel snow as the whole Christchurch was covered white starting in the midnight of July 24th. It is to be said, July 25th’s the coldest weather for Christchurch in the past 16 years. The height of the snow reached from 20-30 centimetres. Most people were having their day off at work and at school.

The white snow has given Christchurch city a beautiful scene and in every corner, a snow man or a snow ball fight would be seen. For safety purposes, vehicles on the road used chain tires for safe journey to their destinations.

Everything around FGS South Island became white. The shops, houses, churches and even the Buddha statue and the statues of the little monks inside the temple were like wearing a tall white hat and a white coat. Not to forget the four Bodhisattva statues at the main entrances, they were all covered with snow too. The excited youths of FGS has built a “snow Buddha” just at the entrance as the morning came. The snow Buddha had attracted at least 100 people, in not even an hour, stopping their car to just have a picture with it.

This great surprising weather had brought Christchurch good memories and happiness. Wishing everyone in Christchurch would have better courage for a more beautiful garden city in the future.
