Fo Guang Shan (North Island) NZ was invited to Dawn Ceremony at New Police Headquarters Construction Site in Flat Bush
A new Police headquarters will be built in Flat Bush and expected to be completed in mid 2012. A simple yet solemn dawn ceremony at the construction was held on 29 June. In attendance were Police Minister Judith Collins, Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross, Acting Counties Manukau District commander, Superintendent Nick Perry, Assistant Commissioner Allan Boreham, Inspector Jim Searle, Inspector Jacqui Whittaker and 20 others. The Royal New Zealand Police College Wing 261 Patron Abbess Manshin, was the only Asian Leader invited to witness this historical event.
The ceremony began with blessings from Maori Elder and Chaplain Brian Prendeville, followed by turning of the first sod by Police Minister Judith Collins. In her speech, Police Minister Judith Collins said that Police stations come in all shapes and varieties, the new headquarters allows Police officers to work from one base, while maintaining community stations in Howick, Botany and Beachlands.
Thereafter, Inspector Jim Searle explained the new building functions, significance and services to Police Minister Judith Collins, Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross and Abbess Manshin. Police Minister Judith Collins was cordially invited to visit Fo Guang Shan Temple by Abbess Manshin and promised she would drop by one day to witness the temple’s developments over the past few years.
