Learning the Path of Enlightenment in Enhancing Life
At 1.30pm of June 25, the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island had a class of around 30 students learning from BLIA senior member, Lecturer Ronna Chen. Ronna had a talk about “The Path of Enlightenment in Enhancing the Way of Life”. BLIA South Island Vice-President Mei-Hwa Chen started the class by introducing Ronna. Ronna has been a Fo Guang Dharma lecturer since 1997, has been promoted to the second highest qualification of a Fo Guang Dharma lecturer and she is a person who fulfils her responsibilities, being one of the most outstanding female member of the BLIA.
Ronna emphasised “The meaning in value of life”, “The significance of the Bodhi Path” and “The Mutual Way of a Bodhi Heart and Humanistic Buddhism” as the three main points of her lecture. She expressed, life should always have advancement, consciousness of the mind and to get the most out of it because human beings have the intelligence to have good thoughts, to lead a good life and to be brave even in a heavenly state. With this, every human being should personally appreciate the opportunities in learning Dharma.
She then continued, after the earthquakes, people of Christchurch begin to understand that all materials are of impermanence; as the human heart changes, it is natural that the earth and rivers alters. Following the lecture, she brought up the attitude of living healthy, wealthy and easy; firstly, one should have a healthy body to carry out more jobs and accomplishing more causes of Buddhism; secondly, one should achieve wealth of the 7 Noble Wealth in the Dharma; and thirdly, one should stay simple and easy in learning the Dharma. She encouraged everyone to have a Bodhi heart in advancing their life and help others. Through this class, students have benefited from the Dharma and carry on the spirit of Buddha together.
In the end, temple supervisor, Venerable Juexi thanked Ronna for her lecture and used tea leaves as the closing for the class: When tea leaves are placed into different containers, it will present a different taste, using different pottery for the tea will also change the benefits of the tea. When good quality tea leaves are matched with earthenware, it will have better flavour, even when normal quality tea leaves are matched with earthenware, it will produce better tea; likewise, if one accepts the Dharma and chooses to enhance their lives, the temple is a place to match with. The students thanked Venerable Juexi and Lecturer Ronna in providing them a wonderful lecture, bringing energy and joy for the weekend.
