The eight classes of the course started with a short film of “Handing Down the Torch – The Story of Fo Guang Shan” where history of Fo Guang Shan (FGS) were told to all students and the following classes will also start with a short film. Following on, Venerable Juexi gave more understanding in Buddhist terminologies using “Dharma Characters” authored by Fo Guang Shan senior, Venerable Tzu Chuang.
The Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) members and the BLIA English Sub-Chapter President and Vice President were also joined together with some new local students in the class. With words of FGS founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun from “The Story of Fo Guang Shan” the students of this Chinese-English class were all moved by his spirit and willpower. In continuing the class with Venerable Juexi, students also understood more about Buddhism after questions of : “Will chanting the name of Buddha will bring one to heaven? Where do heavenly beings go after they end their lives? What are the differences of the heavenly beings and human beings?” were asked. Venerable provided answers to all questions giving the class more wisdom and learning to be more compassionate; a pure heart must be in oneself while learning the teachings of Buddha, and one should act immediately without wasting time; wishing all students in learning the right and healthy ways of the Dharma.
