Fo Guang Shan ( North Island ) NZ, The ‘Three Acts of Goodness’ Painting Competition
In order to encourage young people to practice saying good words, doing good deeds and having good intentions advocated by Master Hsing Yun, Fo Guang Shan (North Island) NZ held the ‘Three Acts of Goodness’ painting competition on 16th April 2011. 68 pupils from the Fo Guang Chinese School took part in this competition led by Acting Principal Stella Lu and 12 teachers. The competition attracted students from 12 of the local schools of different ethnicities and religions. Mission Heights School’s Art teacher, who is of Indian ethnicity brought 7 of her Indian students to participate in this competition . There were a total of 99 participants including five of the Fo Guang Youth.
Many children used animals as their theme to draw the meaning of the three good deeds. The competition ended at 4pm and three Artist Judges selected 12 masterpieces. The first place Fo Guang Award was presented to 11 year-old Linda Chin who drew one panda carrying another panda to get bamboo leaves for food. The winning paintings will be displayed and the prize giving ceremony is to be held during Buddha’s Birthday Multicultural Festival on the 16th April 2011.
