Deputy Secretary General of BLIA Oceania cares
It is the 8th day since the offering of the BLIA NZ Earthquake Relief Service Centre; Deputy-Secretary General of BLIA Oceania, Venerable Yilai visited Abbes Manshin, Venerable Juexi, North Island Association President Madam Chai Sufen, Vice-President Mr Chen Surong and wife and South Island’s English Department President Ms Glenda et al. on the 2nd of March. A group of around 8 concerned about Lyttelton and went for a visit. One of the members of the group, Ms Glenda, which lives in Lyttelton was working in Kaipoi when the earthquake happened, therefore she didn’t feel the earthquake when it happened and luckily, her house is not seriously damaged; But the suburb of Lyttelton suffers serious damage as a lot of the residents lost their home. The members of BLIA had presented them food and 2000 dollars of donation to help Lyttelton. Accepted by the President of Lyttelton Relief Centre, Ms Paula Smith, she gratefully thanks the BLIA members and asked to also share half of the food to another seriously damaged suburb, Sumner.
The group then visited Sumner and was surprised by the condition of the area and have also seen the rearrangement of marine terrestrial of Cave Rock for easy accommodation for the people. The group has also have detours as not all roads are accessible due to the earthquake and they have also saw affected historic churches being patrolled.
With the guide of the New Zealand Police, Venerable Yilai, Abbess Manshin and Madam Chai Sufen et al. entered the city to have an understanding of the situation. The city suffered a massive destruction from the earthquake as a lot of buildings and roads are seriously damaged. The people that experienced the earthquake has also been alarmed and shaken both physically and mentally. It is estimated to have 16 billion dollars to conserve and rebuild the Christchurch city and it will have to take around 15 – 20 years.
