They were welcomed by Abbess Manshin, Venerable Juexi and over 10 members of the BLIA NZ South Island Fo Guang Shan members to the centre. Abbess Manshin gratefully thanked the visit and concern of the New Zealand Police and explained the sturdy constructions of the centre. Besides the damage of some items in the building, it is a very safe place to be. Abbess has also explained, on the 23rd of February, the centre has started to put BLIA NZ Earthquake Relief Centre into work by providing medical aid, free hot food and drinks to the disaster victims and also to provide anyone to come and rejuvenate their energy. In the meantime, Superintendent Wallace Haumaha and his team also had a meal offered in the centre.

Superintendent Wallace Haumaha and his force expressed that this is the most delicious meal they had since the earthquake. They have also shared the working condition of the police force and they are currently in the mist of trying to identify the deceased hoping to ease the worries and waiting of family members. They have also invited Abbess Manshin and Fo Guang Shan members to participate on an understanding rescue progress that will be held on the following day at Burnside High School. Around 50 Japanese and Asian family members of the victims that are trapped in the CTV building will also be there to understand the rescue progress. Other religious and Asian community leader representatives will also be at the scene to console the family members. Abbess Manshin then told that around 30 members of the Fo Guang Shan will attend the rescue progress to help and support the police force by easing up the worries of family members.
