Day two of Summer Camp

01 / 14

Day two of Summer Camp began with the youth attending morning chanting alongside the Venerables. After breakfast, the youth got the chance to sit down and have a talk with the Abbess which included countless laughs and jokes. Subsequently, Venerable Rulian took over and introduced the youth to the Dharma instruments. They were taught the three prostrations as well as the Incense Offering. The youth learnt quickly under the Venerables guidance and the help from other experienced helpers. After lunch, the youth learnt how to trim the bamboo around the temple grounds. They were split into two groups, each with an allocated leader, and moved off to different areas around the Temple to trim bamboo. The youth put in all their effort through patience and teamwork in order to maintain the temple’s peaceful, pleasant surroundings. Venerable Rulian then decided to treat the youth to some snacks after all the bamboo trimming had finished, as a way of rewarding them for all the hard work they had put in. In the evening, the youth aged between 15-17 years were fortunate to have the Temple invite a tutor to teach them some basic science. They had a lesson about physics which included electricity and electrical circuits. Meanwhile, the other youth had evening chanting which was followed by another small talk with the Abbess. At around 8:30pm the Abbess took the youth out for an evening stroll through Point View Reserve. This stroll turned into more of a fast power walk and some of the boys even decided to have a race. The Reserve is vast and consists of many stairs and ramps which left the youth tired and exhausted. Nevertheless, it was the perfect end to the day and the youth were eager to return to their rooms and get ready for bed.
