Yao Hong Ying’s Embroidery Attracts Chch Seniors

01 / 10

Yao Hong Ying’s second batch of works has been on display for just under three months, and has already attracted 5000 admirers. Every month, there has been numerous group visits. On 10th August, seven seniors from the Burnwood Day Care Centre Club 304 visited the FGY Art Gallery South Island’s Yao Hong Ying’s Embroidery Exhibition, in the company of three social workers.

Visit organiser Jann Clutterbuck said that special arrangements were made to bring the seniors to FGS South Island for a Temple tour and time to admire the popular embroidery displays.
Everyone admired Ms. Yao’s talent, and had great interest in the solemn-looking depiction of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.

With the encouragement of the BLIA South Island Vice-president Jack Liu, the visitors each took turns making a wish at the wishing bell in the Buddha Hall, and thus planting the seeds of good causes and conditions for themselves. Ms Clutterbuck believes that this joyful visit was meaningful one made as they had the opportunity to see the high quality embroidery displays and admire the eco-friendly “green” Buddhist Temple building.

Running short of time this trip, Ms Clutterbuck promised to return to the Temple another time to participate in the Art Gallery’s guided tours and to have lunch at the Water Drop Cafe.
On 11th August, Katrina brought 11 seniors from the Anthony Wilding Retirement Village to the Art Gallery to see Yao’s embroidery art displays. These seniors had heard from their friends many a times how good the artworks were, and decided to do themselves justice by seeing the works for themselves. The visitors were surprised by the Ms Yao’s embroidery skills, of which far surpassed their expectations.

The visitors were so satisfied that they were already planning their next visit to the Art Gallery with friends who have not yet been even before leaving the Temple. They hope to share their joy found at the Temple with many others.
