Christchurch’s Rotary Club visits FGS South Island

The New Zealand Christchurch Rotary Club Southern division paid a visit to Fo Guang Shan South Island on the evening of 17th November. The 40 guests led by their organiser Mr. Athol McCully hearing about the special building of Fo Guang Shan South Island as well as the reputable Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 2.

The group was first given a tour of the Temple by assistant curator, from the architecture of the building to the stone teapot that was currently on exhibition. The range of stone teapots brought gasps of admiration and appreciation at the skills of the sculpt artist.

Following the art gallery tour, the guests were introduced to the formalities of the Buddha Hall, the different merits associated with different types of offerings and also questions have risen with regards to classes offered at FGS South Island. The collections of the Grand Master’s “one stroke calligraphy” were introduced along with the newly opened exhibition of Dale Gallagher’s acrylic paintings.

At the conclusion of the Temple tour, the guests were treated with a small dessert in the Water Drop Café and shared their experience of the Temple tour. Mr. Athol then gave his thanks to Fo Guang Shan South Island and the staff for their hospitality and hoped to return in the future to look at more high quality artworks.
