Hamilton Probus Club Members Visited Temple
On 11 Nov, 48 members of the Hamilton Probus Club, all retirees, visited the temple. It was one of the best times of the year to visit as they could enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms. They enjoyed their morning tea in the teahouse while admiring the breath-taking scenery of the courtyard with all the cherry blossoms in full bloom. This was followed by a tai chi session with Venerable Miao Yu.
Although some of the elderly were slow in their movement, they still joined in the exercise and experienced the peaceful motive meditation. After the refreshing exercise, they were divided into three groups, and three English Sub-chapter members explained the significance of the building architecture, the teachings of Humanistic Buddhism, the symbolisms of Dharma instruments and so on to allow them to gain a deeper insight into Buddhism. The members were amazed with the size of the temple which is well maintained, clean and peaceful. They were also inquisitive and posed questions like: ‘Is Buddhism a religion or philosophy’, ‘Did Buddhism originate from China or India’, ‘ Why does the Buddha statue not resemble an Indian’ etc. Their enthusiasm in learning Buddhism is truly admirable.
