Cake Decorators Guild Presidents Discover Treasure!
On 6th August, the President of the New Zealand Cake Decorators Guild Ms Joy McKenzie and Chapter President Ms Shona Ross of the Hillmorton Cake Decorators Guild of Christchurch’s Hillmorton district, visited FGY Art Gallery Christchurch. They were warmly received by Temple Superintendent Venerable Juexi and Art Gallery Public Relations Officer Seeshen Lee.
Ms Ross, a friend of the Art Gallery, brought Ms McKenzie to the Gallery to admire the embroidery exhibition upon her return to New Zealand after participating in the "Australia New Zealand Cake" Conference in Australia. The New Zealand Cake Decorators Guild was founded in 1986, and at present has 41 chapters and 884 members. The Guild holds their general meetings once a year on average.
Ms McKenzie was thrilled to be able to visit the embroidery. She commented that walking around and viewing the displays was a way she could enhance her own knowledge of needlework as well as stimulus for her personal growth.
Ms McKenzie esteems the FGY Art Gallery to be a precious rarity, one that people never forget. She also appreciates the diverse activities and events held by FGS South Island, for which she has unreserved praise.
Venerable Juexi invited the two association presidents to collaborate with FGS South Island and the BLIA in conducting a cake decoration class at the Temple; an offer both presidents readily accepted. A possible date for the class we will determined in the near future.
