01 / 08

On 10th August, 13 members of Christchurch’s Westburn District Women's Association arrived at FGY Art Gallery Christchurch to visit Yao Hong Ying’s Embroidery Art Exhibition. Art Gallery Public Relations Officer Seeshen Lee took he visitors on a guided tour of the embroidery displays.

The Association was founded in 1973 and currently has five chapters and 140 members who get together every month. It’s first every outing was to the Art Gallery’s 2009 Yao Hong Ying Embroidery Art Exhibition. Visit organiser Ms Jan Cleland is a Friend of the Art Gallery, and ever since visiting Ms Yao’s Exhibition last year, she has been back to the Gallery for its other amazing exhibitions with groups friends.

Among the visitors, two were husbands who in order to support and assist their wife in the activities organized by the association, decided to become members themselves. The two men believe that Yao Hongying’s embroidery skills have far exceeded that of the “crafts level”, and agree that her art works are of the national level. Everyone admired the embroidery displays and were full of praise, and confided that what they saw that day was the most moving works of embroidery.
