On 7 November, The India New Zealand Business Council Chairman Wenceslaus Anthony, invited Fo Guang Shan (North Island) NZ to the Mother Teresa Centenary Celebration at the Catholic Church of Christ the King. Abbess Manshin, BLIA President Dolly Tsai and 25 BLIA members attended. The other distinguished guests included Governor General of New Zealand, Sir Anand Satyanand and Indian High Commissioner to NZ, Mr Sureesh Mehta. 300 guests were present.

The lighting of the lamp by Priest Ray Green signalled the commencement of the celebration. Thereafter various religious leaders took turns to pay tribute to Mother Teresa for her contribution to the welfare of all beings and school children put up performances to commemorate her compassion and love.

Abbess Manshin shared a story by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, about a pigeon tirelessly picking up jewels dropped from a statue of Guan Yin Bodhisattva decorated with diamonds, pearls and gems to the poor and needy throughout its living life. Its’ spirit of showing no regrets, holding nothing back, never turning away from anyone in need and no one knew what great things they had done was like Mother Teresa. 25 BLIA members dedicated their merits to Mother Teresa by performing the song Harmonize with hand gestures. The ceremony ended very well.
