Fo Guang Shan (North Island) Buddhist Wedding Ceremony

01 / 05

On 25 Sept, Fo Guang Shan (North Island) New Zealand held a Buddhist Wedding Ceremony for temple volunteers Golden & Cat. It was attended by 30 guests. Both Golden & Cat are Chinese migrants who met in New Zealand.

Abbess Manshin presided over the ceremony . The ceremony began with the recitation of the ‘Incense of Praise’ and ‘Prayers for A Buddhist Wedding’ written by Master Hsing Yun. They took their marriage vows to be faithful partners in sickness and health, in good times and bad, in joy and sorrow. Thereafter, they exchanged gifts and received Buddhist prayer beads and blessings from the Abbess.

Golden & Cat attended Buddhism class at the temple. Golden is very good in handy work and helps out with repairing damage furniture in the temple. Being a very motivated person, he self-learned the techniques of making exquisite pens from various types of wood.

When the couple was asked about their feelings of the marriage, Cat expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all who have made this occasion memorable and a success. She recalled that not so long ago, on the same day, two people asked her whether she was married. It was then that she knew the temple conducts marriage ceremonies. They have further signed up for the renewal of Matrimonial Vows Ceremony during the Cherry Blossom Festival on 17 October, 2010. We wish them all the very best as they journey through life together.
