Fo Guang Shan (North Island) New Zealand Volunteer on Working Holiday Visa Goes Back to Taiwan
“Venerable, can you please explain the meaning of these words?” Rita, the Main Shrine volunteer was often asked. Perhaps, because of the uniform that she wore, she was often mistaken for the venerable. Rita was here from Taiwan on a one year working holiday visa. How time flies. After experiencing the four seasons of New Zealand, it was time for her to say goodbye.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the Venerables for their guidance and words of wisdom.
She started her first duty at the teahouse and has won many praises from staff and diners alike for her hardworking attitude and politeness. She was then transferred to the Mainshrine to learn other aspects of the temple and chores. Although she was often mistaken for the Venerable, nevertheless she was always amicable and never failed to lend a hand to everyone. In her leisure, she would study English to improve herself and to be able to converse better.
She has taken refuge on 25 July, and is looking forward to taking the five precepts in Taiwan this October. Her stay in New Zealand has been memorable and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
