BLIA (New Zealand North Island) English Sub chapter Family Visit
On Wednesday 8 September, Venerable Miao Yu and eight members from the Lotus Link Humanistic Buddhism Class visited Peter Batten in his family home. Quoting from the Amitabha Sutra, Venerable Miao Yu encouraged everyone to recite the Buddha’s name as part of their daily practice. Some of the members reflected that they had not regarded the recitation of Buddha’s name an important practice prior to the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, however, in the wake of the turmoil, realise the importance of constantly cultivating wholesome thoughts in everyday life to be prepared for unforeseen events or crisis’s. Venerable Miao Yu accentuated that daily practice such as meditation enables one to respond calmly and mindfully in any circumstance. Religious faith has played an important role in comforting and settling the mind of those effected by the devastating earthquake. Venerable Miao yu encouraged everyone to follow the example of Avalokiteshvara by reaching out to assist those in need, and to practice the path to the Buddhahood diligently and lead a fulfilling life.
