Second Meeting of Fo Guang Shan 2011 Rugby World Cup Preparation
On 7 September, 2 temple volunteers met up with Project Manager David Seaton to discuss about the 2011 Rugby World Cup HEART of the Nation Art Trail project that will be held in the temple. They discussed the possibility of transforming concept into reality which included the idea of novice monks and rabbits in jerseys playing rugby against each other while the sheep act as the audience. The novice monks, rabbits and sheep symbolized Buddhism, Chinese (as Year 2011 is the year of the Rabbit) and Kiwi culture respectively. The display area will be at the field next to the temple car park as they are clearly visible to the public, passing cars and people across the Barry Curtis Park. The display and the temple buildings will be decorated with an assortment of lights. This unique display will definitely integrate sports, art and culture and will be a treat for all visitors and locals alike during the world cup.
