Temple Tour - De La Salle College
Tuesday, 10 June 2008 at 9:30am. This tour was led by Venerable Miaoyu, assisted by English-sub-chapter member, Dane Brett and Melissa Yong. Brother Steve Hogan, Principal of De La Salle College, and 20 students between 15 and 17 years of age took part in the visit to the Temple. The Principal had arranged the visit to broaden the students learning and respect for other people’s cultures and religions.
The students were very well mannered, quiet, and obedient and concentrated during the tour. They were keen to learn and able to understand and remember whatever Venerable Miaoyu taught. For example, the greeting of Buddhists in joining the palms and saying ‘Amotifo; Fo Guang Shan means Buddha’s Light Mountain. The students gave good answers to questions about the story regarding the Five Precepts and understood the four Maha Bodhisattvas each of which represents great wisdom, great compassion, great vows and great practice.
On behalf of the College, one of the students expressed their appreciation for the warmth, hospitality and service given by the Monastery. They had learned a lot about the Buddhist way of life and the symbolism of different items. Brother Steve Hogan said that, in the future, the College would like to participate in big functions at the Temple, helping with performances and offerings.
