YAD Celebrate Mother’s Day with Gratitude
The second Sunday of May was the day FGS South Island celebrated the heart-warming Mother’s Day. Venerable Juexi and Venerable Miaoyu led everyone in chanting the “Difficulty in Repaying One’s Parents Sutra” and reading the “Prayers on behalf of one’s Mother” by Venerable Master Hsing Yun as a way of collectively expressing their gratitude to their mothers. Everyone was deeply moved as they chanted the Sutra which described the virtues as well as sacrifices made by one’s parents.
After the Dharma Function, the Venerable gave a Dharma talk, saying that: in the world, it is the mother who constantly worry about and long for their children, and even though the children may grow up and establish families of their own, parents still worry about the various aspects of their children’s lives. Unfathomable is the devotion and selfless love our parents have for us. As Buddhists, we can chant Sutras, transcribe Sutras, make offerings to the Triple Gem and uphold the Precepts as a way of repaying the profound kindness of our parents.
Following on, YAD 1 President Jason Liu led the YAD members in sending out there wishes to the mothers who were present by giving each mother a carnation and by singing “Listen to what mother says” and performing hand gestures to the song “A heart of gratitude”. YAD 2 President Danny Chen and YAD member Maggie Zhang expressed their heartfelt gratitude and wishes to their mothers.
The mothers also shared with everyone the kind of love and care they have for their own mothers. BLIA South Island Vice-president Mrs. Chen expressed her gratitude to her late mother and encouraged everyone to treasure their mothers and seize the opportunity to be filial to them.
From the bottom of her heart, BLIA member Gina Chen took the opportunity thank BLIA Director Mrs. Wu, who had been just like a mother to her, for the many years of care and concern. BLIA committee members Benny Wong and James Low brought humour into the scene by sharing interesting stories about their mothers.
Lastly, the YAD members shared with everyone some homemade cake. Mrs. Wu and Mrs. Pan were invited to cut the cake on behalf of everyone. The moving Mothers Day celebrations concluded joyful as everyone wished their mothers good health.
