Lest We Forget - BLIA Members Celebrate ANZAC Day
Every year, on 25th April, New Zealand remembers the fallen ANZAC service men as well as survivors of the Second World War by conducting a commemorative service. Neighbour of FGS South Island, Mrs Joe Noble invited BLIA South Island members to attend an ANZAC memorial service held at the nearby Jane Dean Close on 25th April, 9am in the morning. BLIA members James Low, Tracy Chen and Benny Wong attended the service on behalf of the Temple.
The service began with a procession by the military band, and Lieutenant Colonel Michael Dore was invited to address the invited guests. Lt. Col. Dore said that the peace we now share is very valuable, and hopes there will never be a war again. He also took the opportunity to honor the fallen servicemen by playing the commemorative ‘Last Post’.
During the service, the BLIA representatives and the other service attendees laid poppies as a gesture of offering their highest respect to the soldiers. The assembly thanked everyone for their attendance and the service concluded to the playing of the National Anthem.
The BLIA members expressed that through attending the ANZAC commemorative service, they were able to gain deeper insight into the local culture and live out the Buddha’s Light spirit of being good neighbours through engaging in positive interactions with them.
