Fo Guang Shan (North Island) visit to elderly devotee
On 27 May Venerable Manwang, Venerable Jue Hao and 3 volunteers visited 83 years old devotee Lin Huizhen who lives alone is still capable of taking care of her daily chores even though she has a weak heart. She is a devoted Buddhist who migrated from Hong Kong to New Zealand 13years ago and whenever she is helpless and alone she will recite Avalokiteshvara’s name for comfort.
She was admitted to hospital last year with gastrorrhagia and recently has been feeling unwell due to her weak heart. Venerable Man Wang expressed her concerned and promised to arrange volunteers to visit and help her with the daily chores on a regular basis as she is part of the Fo Guang Shan’s big family. Upon hearing this a sorrowful and lonely Lin was delighted; tears wet her eyes and she held the Venerables hands tightly to show her appreciation. Before everyone took their leave, Lin insisted on showing them to the door even though she felt unwell. She was given an Avalokiteshvara necklace, holy water and an auspicious souvenir to wish her improved health.
