Gail Batchelor’s Buddhism Abstract Artworks
Gail Batchelor’s abstract artwork exhibition is a series of oil painting art work that currently display in Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island for two months start from 2nd of March. She a part time painter that earn her bachelor degree in historic of art in University of Canterbury. She joined IBA meditation class. With her unique view and interest on eastern philosophy and art, she has drawn a series of artwork based on zen or meditation. One of her artwork series creation namely “Wrestling the Ox” have truly describe the level of meditation and this creation inspired from twelve century china greatest Buddhist Zen drawing “The 10 Ox”. The struggle ox can be describes as our desire and trouble mind, it also symbolize every sentient being have their Buddha nature and need to be discover later or soon.
Another creation of Gail, “Coming Home” stated by control our uninhibited mind through meditation; we can discover our Buddha nature and gain enlightenment. In this exhibition, Gail had chosen the series of drawing that related and reflect to the Buddhism. Through her talent drawing skills, a new perspective way of Buddhism and Zen can be interpreted. Gail Batchelor will demonstrate and create her artworks on every Wednesday to Friday on 1pm.
