01 / 02

Buddhism speaks of the eight kinds of sufferings: The suffering of birth, old age, sickness, death, of being apart from those you love, of being together with those you hate, of not obtaining what you seek and the suffering of the scorching heat of the five Skandhas. How many kinds of sufferings have you experienced in life and which experiences do you feel cause the most suffering?
On 11 March, Venerable Miao Yu led 6 of the study group members to explore the different kind of sufferings in life. Upon reflection on the bitter sweet life we are journey through, life is inseparable from all kinds of sufferings. How does suffering arise and who is the one suffering? Venerable Miao Yu explained that suffering arises due to our desires, attachments and ignorance. Happiness or suffering is just within a flash of thought. We must learn to be the Master of our mind and do not let others affect our emotions. Offer others confidence, happiness, hope and convenience. All phenomenons are based on causes and conditions, what goes around will come around, when we let go of our desires and attachments, suffering ceases.
