Fulfilling Light Dharma Function Shines Hope onto All
FGS South Island held its annual Fulfilling Light Dharma Function on 29th January where Venerable Abbess Manshin led 60 devotees in Sutra chanting, prayer reading and offering lights of blessings as well as transferring merits in the wish of fresh hope for the New Year, harmonious families, world peace and orderly societies.
Venerable Abbess Manshin gave a Dharma talk on significance of the ‘Enlightened Mind’ which is to live in the present moment and consciously contemplate one’s own mind and learn the bodhisattva spirit of ‘Enlightenment with Compassion’ and vow to be enlightened so one can serve humanity.
The Abbess used the example of three animals crossing a river to highlight the different traits of the Bodhisattva, Sravaka and Buddha, explaining that different resolves result in differences in both the level of spiritual attainment and the realm which one is to enter.
The Abbess also reminded everyone that learning Buddhism means to learn how to be skilful and flexible. One should be affording and determined when carrying out tasks, and maintain a positive attitude.
The Temple presented everyone with auspicious souvenirs as a way of wishing them joy as well as ‘Awe-inspiring Virtue and an Ocean of Merits’.
