House Blessing Leads to Arts and Culture Exchange

Venerable Abbess Manshin, Temple Supervisor Venerable Juexi, BLIA South Island President Almeric Cheng and wife, Advisor Gu and wife and 2 others arrived at the household of Tang Yuxun and wife Hui Ying Zhang on 29th January to conduct a house blessing visit. 90 year old Mr Tang graduated from Shanghai Fudan University and is multitalented, having served as an editor, photographer, calligrapher and professional accountant. He is also an experienced tai chi practitioner who is also a literary genius.

At age 35, Mr Tang was elected as Taiwan’s ‘Who’s Who’ of famous people, and has practiced as an accountant for 50 years. 20 years after migrating to New Zealand, wife Ms Zhang, who is Cheng-Po Cheng’s granddaughter, became a renowned Taiwanese oil painter. She used to serve in the Taiwan Government News Office.

During the house blessing, the visiting party appreciated the calligraphy artist’s various styles of works as well as Ms. Zhang’s contemporary poems. The visiting party and the couple engaged in a discussion of arts, humanities, life and the mind.

Mr. Tang was invited to share his love for calligraphy with everyone during the Chinese New Year ‘Cultural Street’ festivities at FGS South Island through live demonstrations of calligraphy. Venerable Abbess Manshin presented Mr. Tang with a copy of ‘Enlightenment with Compassion’, ‘Southern China’s People Weekly’ and ‘Way of Life’.
