Lotus Link Humanistic Buddhism Dharma Class
On Wednesday 17 February, 5 members of the Lotus Link Humanistic Buddhism Dharma Class continued with their discussion on the Five Dusts under the guidance of Venerable Miao Yu. They shared their self reflections and awareness of the Five Dusts (wealth, form, fame, food and sleep) and discussed which ones they felt affected their lives and how they might be overcome.
Form and fame are desires that several of the members could relate to and they shared their experiences of challenging relationships which causes anger to arise. Venerable Miao Yu guided them to reflect on why anger arises and how they might be wise in their thoughts, speech and actions to overcome them.
To demonstrate the right view when confronted with attachment to fame she shared the verse written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun;
‘Glory to the Buddha,
Success to the Team,
Benefit to the Temple and
Merit to the Devotees’
The group has found the discussions about the Five Dusts very beneficial and has become more aware and mindful of their practice. Next week they will begin a series of discussions about the Eight Kinds of Suffering.
