~ A place of freedom ~Fo Guang Shan Temple (North Island)
On 16 February, Dominic Peters and his father Dennis Peters, who is on holiday in New Zealand, visited Fo Guang Shan Temple (North Island). Mr Peters came from England two years ago and is currently working as a navigator in New Zealand. He fell in love with the serenity and peacefulness of the temple on his first visit a few months ago and since then Fo Guang Shan Temple has become one of his favorite visiting spots when his relatives and friends from England come to visit.
Volunteer Gek Hoon gave them a tour of the ‘Way of Life’ photographic exhibition at the Art Gallery explaining the significance and the connotation of the photographs, as well as the idea of Humanistic Buddhism and its development in New Zealand. Dominic and his father were very grateful to the volunteer and shared his pain of losing his mother two years ago. He feels that he has benefited from the ideals of Humanistic Buddhism, finding them practical and useful. He would like to know more about the teachings and received a book on Humanistic Buddhism written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun.
